National Honor Society is an elite group of 11th and 12th graders who maintain a G.P.A. of 3.5 or higher.  This is an academic group that focuses on the four characteristics of:  Service, Leadership, Scholarship, and Character.

Advisor:

Officers:  Officers must be members of NHS who have served actively for a year.  They are nominated and voted on by fellow members and approved by Mrs. Post.  Officers are expected to attend all meetings and activities.
               President-
               Vice-President-
               Secretary-
              Treasurer-

Upcoming Events:

Scholarships:  I am able to recommend 2 senior members for nation-wide National Honor Society scholarships.  In doing so, I will consider most importantly involvement in NHS events during both junior and senior years.  I will also take into consideration students' reflections of the principles of Scholarship, Leadership, Character, and Service.  NHS officer positions are a great honor bestowed by fellow NHS members but do not guarantee recommendation for the scholarships.  My recommendation does not guarantee students a scholarship--it merely allows them the chance to apply.

Service Opportunities: We complete 2 highway cleanups, 2 blood drives, and other service activities, such as nursing home visits and the Pajama Program drive.  In addition, students are encouraged to volunteer on their own. Below are links NHS has provided to some organizations you may wish to assist.

Fundraisers: All members are expected to participate in fundraisers.  The National Honor Society chapter dues were increased significantly this year, so we will unfortunately have to do more fundraising than in the past.  I hope to start the school year out with one big fundraiser; we need to raise enough money to off set costs of dues, certificates, pins, ceremony food/decor, while still leaving a little left in the budget.
  • Smith's Country Store sub sales--get forms no later than August 26.  Checks payable to North Clarion.
  • All students must contribute at least $20 in profit (10 subs).
  • Sub sales end September 8.  Money and forms are due at this time.
  • Subs will be delivered toward the end of the school day on Sept. 22.

Membership Pledge:

I pledge myself to uphold the high purposes of the National Honor Society to which I have been selected;

          I will be true to the principles for which it stands;

          I will be loyal to my school;

          I will maintain and encourage high standards of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

2014-2015: 2 highway cleanups, 2 blood drives (Erie Blood Bank), 1 fundraiser

We took Mitten Tree donations to SAFE shortly before Christmas Break in 2013.

In the 2013-2014 school year we held 2 Red Cross blood drives, helping save around 100 lives!  We also participated in 2 highway cleanups, and helped raise funds for Philippine relief.

Fall Highway Cleanup: Wednesday, October 8

  • It will take place right after school.

  • Students are required to turn in these forms, even if they are 18 and/or have participated in drives before.

  • Students understand that a certain amount of risk is involved in highway cleanups.

  • If unable to participate in scheduled highway cleanups, students must contribute in other ways, such as communicating with the Shippenville Penn Dot, picking up supplies, organizing materials, etc.
