This course is designed to develop the student's aesthetic sensitivity, which is the intellectual and emotional response to music. Great attention is paid to developing the basic skills necessary to become a competent musician such as proper breathing, instrument technique, and possession of a detailed knowledge of the fundamentals of music. This is accomplished through the concert band performance medium and weekly small group lessons. Quality concert band literature ranging from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary eras is used to teach concepts and percepts that are vital to an aesthetic musical experience. Students are expected to demonstrate knowledge gained through a live performance where they are able to express themselves, and share their aesthetic experience with others.
