Course Description:

A wide variety of vocal literature representing different genres and cultures will be studied and performed.  Movement, Dance, and Drama will be applied to performances where appropriate.  Emphasis will be placed on creating, performing, responding to, and understanding music.  No prerequisites required – highly recommended for students interested in Theater, Dance, Vocal and Instrumental Music.

Goals/Objectives:

The students will:

  • Develop and demonstrate appropriate vocal practices and refine the use of the voice as an instrument
  • Sing vocal literature which may include changes in tempo, keys, and meters
  • Sing vocal literature representing diverse genres, styles, and cultures
  • Utilize instruments where appropriate
  • Incorporate drama and dance into performances where appropriate.
  • Develop skills in listening to, analyzing, and evaluating musical experiences
  • Develop an understanding of vocal literature in relationship to history, culture, and other content areas.

Grading:

Your grade for this class will be based on points earned for in and out of class assignments, behavior, cooperation, improvement and participation. 

**Please Note:  An unexcused absence from any vocal/choral performance (including, but not limited to concerts) will result in a failing grade in this course for the year.
